An information session will begin at 5:15 p.m., featuring commonly asked questions about the PTA program, admissions, general education requirements, and what to expect as a PTA student. All registered participants will be entered to win a $500 scholarship from the Surry Community College Foundation by completing a registration form on this page.
Open house participants will meet the PTA core faculty, tour the lab, see demonstrations, meet current students, and receive program literature. Light refreshments will be served.
“Physical therapy continues to evolve, and our program is evolving with it. We’ve made significant updates to our curriculum and learning experiences to prepare students for both the traditional areas of physical therapy and growing specialties such as pelvic health, wound care, and oncology rehabilitation,” says Jess Lawrence, PTA, Director of Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
The Physical Therapist Assistant Program educates students and prepares graduates to work in direct patient care settings under the supervision of physical therapists.
“The PTA pathway also offers a strong return on investment. Students can enter the profession with an associate degree and significantly less educational expense than a doctoral program. Nationally, PTAs now earn a median salary of more than $68,000 per year, and the profession continues to see strong job growth,” explains Lawrence.
Employment opportunities are available in this region and beyond to students upon graduation and passage of the national board exam.
“What I love about physical therapy is how many directions you can take. Our graduates can work in a wide variety of settings, develop expertise in specialty areas, and continue growing throughout their careers. And for students who ultimately want to become physical therapists, PTA-to-DPT bridge programs provide another pathway to continue their education,” continues Lawrence.
