The Knight Standard: Effective Communication

The Knight Standard is a student leadership and professional development series designed to provide SCC students with opportunities to strengthen practical skills that support their academic, professional, and personal growth. The series will be offered monthly throughout the academic year, with each session focusing on a different area of leadership or professional development and featuring a different campus or community leader as the guest speaker.

The Knight Standard is open to all SCC students, regardless of whether they are members of a club, student organization, athletics, or other campus group. The goal of the series is to help students develop leadership, communication, professionalism, confidence, teamwork, and other transferable skills they can apply in the classroom, workplace, campus involvement, and their communities.

This session will focus on the role effective communication plays in leadership and professional success. Emily Workman, Communication Instructor, will provide students with practical strategies for communicating with confidence, including public speaking, using effective body language, practicing active listening, communicating professionally, and managing nervousness when speaking in front of others. Students will gain skills they can use in the classroom, workplace, interviews, presentations, campus involvement, and everyday interactions.
