The Knight Standard: Leadership Through Service
Description
The Knight Standard is a student leadership and professional development series designed to provide SCC students with opportunities to strengthen practical skills that support their academic, professional, and personal growth. The series will be offered monthly throughout the academic year, with each session focusing on a different area of leadership or professional development and featuring a different campus or community leader as the guest speaker.
The Knight Standard is open to all SCC students, regardless of whether they are members of a club, student organization, athletics, or other campus group. The goal of the series is to help students develop leadership, communication, professionalism, confidence, teamwork, and other transferable skills they can apply in the classroom, workplace, campus involvement, and their communities.
This session will focus on Leadership Through Service and the impact leaders can make by recognizing and responding to the needs of their communities. Graham Atkinson, former Sheriff of Surry County, will share in his leadership and community service, including his continued work with the Give a Kid a Christmas program, which serves families throughout the community during the holiday season. Students will learn about servant leadership, identifying community needs, the importance of volunteering and giving back, and how service can create meaningful and lasting impact. The session will encourage students to consider how they can use their own skills, time, and leadership abilities to positively influence the communities around them.
